El Warrant es un contrato o instrumento financiero que da al comprador el derecho, pero no la obligacion, de comprar/vender un activo subyacente (acción, futuro, etc...) a un precio determinado en una fecha futura. En términos de funcionamiento, un warrant es similar a una opción. Si un warrant es de compra recibe el nombre de Warrant call. Si es de venta sera un Warrant put. El warrant, al igual que las opciones, dan al poseedor la posibilidad de efectuar o no la transacción asociada (compra o venta, según corresponda) y a la contraparte la obligación de efectuarla. El hecho de efectuar la transacción recibe el nombre de ejercer el warrant.
